These are a staple with pizza in our family. Sometimes I make them with the same sourdough recipe I use for pizza, but these ones are really good when I don’t plan ahead.
Herb Garlic Knots

2-2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
2 ¼ tsp instant yeast (1 package)
1 ½ tsp sugar
½ tsp salt
½ tsp garlic salt (or garlic powder)
½ tsp dried basil
¾ cup warm water
- Herbed Butter Mixture
2 TBSP melted butter
1 TBSP olive oil
¼ cup diced fresh herbs & garlic
½ tsp garlic salt
½ tsp onion powder
¼ tsp red pepper flakes
Directions
- In liquid measuring cup, combine warm water, yeast & sugar. Stir and rest for 6-8 minutes.
- In bowl of stand mixer, combine flour, olive oil, salt, garlic salt & basil. Add yeast mixture when foamy and mix on low until combined. Knead in mixer until dough forms elastic ball and pulls away from bowl, 3-5 minutes.
- Grease a large bowl with olive oil and transfer dough ball and cover for 30-40 minutes, or until doubled in size.
- Preheat oven to 500F. Combine butter mixture ingredients in a small resealable jar and allow to cool.
- Press dough into a rectangle with hands on floured surface. Spread butter mixture over dough and fold in half lengthways. Cut 1” strips and tie into a knot.
- Bake on heated & greased cast iron or a cookie sheet for 10-12 minutes. Serve with warm marinara sauce.
